Random Thoughts (and Music Requests)

Random thoughts time: some fitness-related, some not. Bear with me. 1. Knee Update Unfortunately, the news isn’t so good on this front. It’s not terrible, but this week has definitely been a step back from the previous 2-3 weeks. I can’t really explain why as I haven’t done anything differently, but in most things in life, progress is not linear and bumps in the road are part of the process. I see the doctor Monday for a follow-up, so that’s good. In the meantime, I’ve been laying off it and have the past few days have gone back to just [...]

What We Can All Learn From My Grandmother

Today’s post will be quick, but it’s very meaningful to me and I think it may help you, too. Last summer I shared a bit about my grandmother and her dedication to exercise and physical activity (you can read that here). Well, it’s been almost a full year since then and she’s still going strong. Her exercise of choice is swimming by a longshot, but unfortunately, she hasn’t been able to swim as much as she’d like because first the pool was closed for over a month for maintenance, and then when she resumed, the chlorine was giving her skin problems [...]

Awesome Fitness Videos For Your Viewing Pleasure: Take 71

I hope everyone had a nice weekend. To kick off the week, I’ve put together a list of 21 awesome training videos to help get you motivated and ready to rock and roll. I’m on the way to the gym myself right now to do some pull-ups, so I could use the added boost myself. Between this list and this weekend’s Good Reads list (check that out if you missed it), you should be busy for a long time. I’ve gotta run, so without further adieu, here’s the list. Getcha popcorn ready… I don’t normally include my own videos in [...]

Good Fitness Reads For the Week: 2/25/2012

I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m really looking forward to this weekend. I actually don’t really have any plans, but I think that’s exactly why I’m looking forward to it. It’s going to be nice. Your weekend’s about to get a whole lot nicer too, as I’ve put together another great compilation of fitness articles from the past week. Let’s get right to do the goods since it’s a long list as it stands. Here are some posts you may have missed during the week. Can vs. Can’t

Focus on what you CAN do, not what you can’t do. Yesterday one of my readers asked me for psychological advice on dealing with an injury, and that above statement was the first thing to pop into my head so I figured it be a good launching point for today’s Quick and Dirty post. The feeling I got last week was that you all like the idea of a short post to end the week, so I’m rolling with it for now. There are two ways to interpret what I said above with regards to dealing with injury: Focus on [...]

Random Thoughts

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve made a Random Thoughts post, so here is goes. 1. Training Update My knee continues to get better, but I’m still nowhere near 100%. That being said, it’s good enough to where I can train somewhat normally, so I’m back into a routine rather than just doing a boatload of chin-ups like I did for the entire month of January. Since I can’t train as hard as I normally do, I’ve been experimenting with full body workouts as opposed to following an upper/lower split like I normally do. So far, I’m loving it. [...]

Hand Care For Meatheads

Hand care is one of the more unsexy topics I’ve ever written about on my blog, but if you’re someone that lifts weights regularly, it’s actually pretty darn important. Before you click off the screen and revoke my man card, rest assured that this isn’t about getting your nails done or anything like that. Trust me, that ain’t my bag, baby. In fact, just to prove how tough and manly I am, the only manicures I ever get are from my teeth. Anywho, this is just about keeping those annoying calluses in check so you can continue to train like [...]

Awesome Fitness Videos For Your Viewing Pleasure: Take 70

I hope everyone had a nice weekend. Mine was pretty good: unmemorable, but far from bad. I took both Saturday and Sunday off from the gym, so I’m feeling rested and ready to rock and roll, which works out nicely because I have a bunch of extra motivation after compiling this awesome list of training videos from the past week. The list is already over 20 videos, so I didn’t want to make it any longer by adding my own stuff, but I’ve been putting up some new things that you can check out over at my You Tube page—please [...]

Good Reads for the Week: 2/18/2012

I hope everyone had a good week and has a nice relaxing weekend planned…or not. It’s funny, during the week when things get hectic I sometimes look forward to the weekend, but the weekend’s invariably seem to end up being as busy—or even busier—than the weekdays. Know what I mean? Hopefully you have some free time though to devote to reading, in which case I’ve got you covered. This is an awesome list of fitness articles that I think you should enjoy Here are some posts you may have missed during the week. Online Training Is Now Available (Inquire if [...]

Quick and Dirty Fridays: Small Changes Are Key

Last Friday I opened it up to you all—the readers—and asked what you’d like to see more of from me on the blog. I like to do this from time to time, and I always appreciate the feedback. I’ll do my best to address the stuff you request, though I can’t promise everything. One of the suggestions though seemed particularly interesting: more short posts so I can post more often. Now, I don’t know if this guy (or maybe it was a girl?) was telling me in a sideways way that I ramble too much (quite possible, and guilty as [...]
