Good Reads For the Week: New Year’s Edition 2011

This will be the last Good Reads of 2011. It’s been a great year, and I want to thank all of you that come to this site every day or week and read what I’m writing. You all are the reason I can justify putting as much time as I do (i.e. a lot) into this. Moving forward into 2012, please let me know if there’s anything special you’d like to see that I’m not doing already. I’m open to suggestions, and I try my best to appease what you’re looking for. As for the Good Reads, it’s another great [...]

Cool Total Body Exercise: Lumberjack Reverse Lunge/Press Combo

It’s been a while since I’ve shared a new Exercise of the Week, so I thought I’d share this one that I really like. As is typical for me, I can’t think of anything good to call it, so I copped out with Lumberjack Reverse Lunge/Press Combo. Rather than try to describe how to do it through words, which could get a little confusing since there’s a lot to it, I’ll just show a short video. If you can think of a better name, I'm all ears. I like this exercise for a few reasons and think it could have [...]

2011 Video Awards

Yesterday I introduced the inaugural “Bruno Blog Awards” given to the blogs and websites that I like and read the most. For the most, it was very well received, so I’m going to go ahead and do the “Bruno Video Awards.” I’m telling you, in time, this is going to big. I mean seriously, what would rather have: a Bruno or a Grammy? Bruno sounds wayyy cooler. See my point? EPIC. With further ado, I bring to the 2011 Bruno’s. Get out your best clothes, stand on a red carpet, and prepare to be bedazzled. You can click on the [...]

2011 Blog Awards

With 2011 coming to a close, I thought it’d be a good time to dole out the Ben Bruno Blog Awards. Sure this is just the first year and everything, but I anticipate by 2015 this will rival the Oscar’s, Grammy’s, Emmy’s, and all that other fun stuff. You just wait and see. I’m about simplicity, so this is going to be pretty basic. I’ll give out 10 awards for websites/blogs, and 10 awards for videos. Today will be the blogs/websites that I like and frequent. These sites win a "Bruno." To get the full effect, you may want to [...]

Good Reads For the Week: Christmas Edition

Happy Christmas Eve everyone! I thought I’d put together a new list of good articles for you to read in case you have some extra time on your hands or just want a reason to dodge the hoopla. Before I get to the list, I just found out yesterday about an awesome seminar happening in three weeks that I wanted to share with you. Dr. Stuart McGill will be speaking January 14-15 in Phoenix, Arizona about essentially everything imaginable related to the spine. Assuming my knee is ok to travel by then, I plan on going myself, and I can’t [...]

10 Exercises You’ve Never Tried Before: Backside Edition

First off, I want to wish everyone a Happy Festivus! Time to break out of the pole and start airing your grievances! If you don’t get the joke, it’s time you seriously catch up on you Seinfeld. Moving on, I had a new article go up on T-Nation called 10 Exercises You’ve Never Tried Before: Backside Edition. I think you can probably guess what it’s about from the title, and I think you’ll really dig it. Give some of these exercises a try and let me know what you think. You can find the article here. Which one’s your favorite? [...]

For Your Viewing Pleasure: Take 62

Hope everyone is having a good week. I’m pretty frustrated myself because I saw the doctor today and got word that it could be even longer than expected before I’m back in action—as in, possibly another month or so. I was not thrilled, but sulking never got anyone got anywhere, so I’m just going to continue to make the best of it and do everything in my power to get it right asap. Unfortunately, you can’t rush some things so I’ve got to be patient and stay positive too. Adversity can either break you down or make you stronger depending [...]

Looking For Good Books? I Am

It’s going on a week and a half since my knee surgery and I’m starting to go completely stir crazy being all cooped up on the couch and not being able to walk. Any of you that have experienced serious injuries know exactly what I’m talking about. You’re bored as all get out, and the mental toll begins to surpass the physical toll. Still, there’s nothing to do but be as positive as you can and look for creative ways to pass time. Since there’s absolutely nothing on daytime TV, that means reading for me. I’ve been a reading fool [...]

Good Reads For the Week: 12/17/2011

Well, it’s the weekend already. Truth be told, when you’re laid up with an injury, the days all sort of meld together into one. I could have sworn it was Sunday today, but unless my computer is lying to me (it’s been known to do that before), it’s Saturday. I’m getting really bored and restless, but I’ve been using the time to get smarter and do a lot of reading. That’s lucky for you, because I’ve got a longer-than-normal list of articles for the week. First, a few things I want to touch on. 1. This is the last weekend [...]

Friday Check In and Randomness

I have a lot of different stuff on my mind right now, but I’m not feeling particularly loquacious today so I’m going to keep this pretty short and sweet with some bullet points to check in before the weekend. 1. I had my follow-up meeting with my doctor yesterday and it did not go as I’d hoped it would. During the surgery he had to do more work than expected, which means a longer recovery than expected. I was expected to up and about by this point I’m still on crutches and can’t hardly any weight on it without significant [...]
