For Your Viewing Pleasure: Take 57

It’s that time of the week: time for some awesome training videos. Before we get there though, I want to remind you to check out Joe Dowdell’s awesome new DVD collection, the Peak Diet and Training Seminar. It’s on sale until Friday only (100 bucks off, so we aren’t talking about chump change), and there a whole bunch of bonus incentives if you buy quickly, so don’t delay. You can read more of my thoughts about in my last blog post. Seriously, you don’t want to miss this. Go here to read more about it. Now on to the videos [...]

Great Training and Nutrition Info. Act Fast!

Joe Dowdell just partnered with Dr. Mike Roussell to launch the Peak Diet and Training Seminar package. I actually personally attended this seminar at Peak Performance Gym in New York City back in the summer so I was able to see the info live, but it was actually better when I watched it again because it’s hard to absorb everything the first time around. This was without a doubt the most comprehensive seminar I’ve ever attended. I came away from it with a head full of new ideas and a 500+ page binder (double-sided) filled with knowledge bombs. Joe leaves [...]

Good Reads for the Week

I hope everyone is having a good weekend so far. I wasn’t sure I’d have the time to put a Good Reads list together, but I did get it done, and it turned out pretty darn awesome if I do say so myself. This should keep you busy for awhile. Here are some posts you may have missed during the week. Take some time to go through these because there’s a bunch of good stuff. 1 Arm T-Bar Rows Strength Training 101: The College Edition Cribs, the Kitchen Edition: What I Eat (most popular post in awhile) For Your Viewing [...]

1 Arm T-Bar Rows

I am a huge fan of dumbell rows. The biggest problem I’ve had with them is that after you do them for awhile and get stronger at them, a lot of gyms don’t have big enough dumbells. Enter the 1 arm t-bar row. This is a great alternative if your gym doesn’t have huge dumbells. One thing I like about these is that the barbell naturally moves on an arc. I always remind people to pull “down and back” on dumbell rows, but this takes care of it for you without thinking. I used to do these with one knee [...]

Strength Training 101: The College Edition

I had a new article go up this morning on T-Nation called Strength Training: The College Edition. Given the title, I bet you can guess what it’s about. I think this is a great template for college students lifting in school gyms, but on a bigger scale, I think it could absolutely work well for anyone looking to build a solid foundation of strength in a less-than-optimal training environment (i.e . the real world). Check it out and let me know what you think. You can find the article HERE. Also, make sure to check out yesterday’s post about my [...]

Cribs, the Kitchen Edition: What I Eat

I’m always getting questions about my diet, so I thought that rather than write out a long blog post talking about my nutritional philosophies, I’d do you one better and show you exactly what I eat on a regular basis. Call it Cribs, the kitchen edition. Let me first start off my saying that I really don’t like to cook. I mean, I reaaaallllllly don’t like it. At the same time, I’m a big believer in good nutritional habits and like to eat well, so for me, the goal is to find foods that take little preparation but are still [...]

For Your Viewing Pleasure: Take 56

Hope everyone is having a good start to the week. Regardless, it’s about to get a little better because I’ve whipped together an awesome compilation of good training videos from the past week. Let’s get to it! The first video is particularly. It’s from Joe Dowdell, owner of Peak Performance in New York City. Peak is considered one of the premiere gyms in the country, and for good reason. It’s awesome. I went there this summer for one of the best seminars I have ever attended, and I liked it so much that I went back to visit a few [...]

Good Reads for the Week: 11/6/2011

It’s Sunday already, and that means another installment of Good Reads for the Week. This is one of the longer and better lists in awhile, so I think you’ll be pleased. I’ll cut the chit-chat and get right to it. Here are some posts you may have missed during the week. My Friday 300 Workout Single Leg RDL/Row Combo For Your Viewing Pleasure: Take 55 And now for the rest of awesome articles and podcasts. Booyah! […]

My Friday “300 Workout”: Live to Fight Another Day

As I mentioned in this post, I took all of last week completely off from training to give myself a little break. I resumed things as normal on Monday, doing my typical lower body workout and following that up with upper body on Tuesday. No problem. On Wednesday I took the day off from training but actually ended up tweaking my back just a little bit moving some stuff around. It wasn’t bad by any means, but enough to know it wasn’t right. Thursday I was scheduled to do lower body again, but when I woke up I just didn’t [...]

Single Leg RDL/Row Combo

I want to share a cool exercise that I’ve been playing around with recently. As is typical with me, I’m not sure what to call it, so I went with the boring route: 1 Leg Barbell RDL/Row Combo. It’s just what the name says, a single leg RDL combined with a barbell row. If we want to get technical, I guess I could call this a Pendlay row since the torso is parallel to the floor and the row is performed in a paused manner. I’m actually not a fan of barbell rows in general because they tend to get [...]
