Quick Tip to Improve Your Warm Up

Here in New England it’s technically been fall since September 23rd, but it really hasn’t felt like fall unlike the past two weeks. Fall is my favorite season by far: not too hot, not too cold. It’s cool in the mornings and evenings and comfortable during the day—not so cold you need a jacket, but not so hot you’re sweating bullets just standing there. It’s perfect. Not to mention it’s football season. Enough said. Nevertheless, the cooler mornings reminds me a simple tip I’d like to share for your workouts. Wear warm clothes during your warm-ups prior to the workout. [...]

For Your Viewing Pleasure: Part Deux

So yesterday after posting my weekly For Your Viewing Pleasure post (be sure to check it out if you haven’t already) I came across three more videos that warrant their own post. I contemplated waiting until next week but ultimately decided to put a small post together. I guess we call it Part Deux. So without further ado, I bring to you Part Deux. Neghar Fonooni does a Turkish Get Up with 36 kg (over 79 pounds) at a bodyweight of 125 pounds. This is just unbelievable strength, and she has excellent technique as well. I love watching Neghar’s videos. [...]

For Your Viewing Pleasure: Take 52

Well, it’s that time of the week again. I’ve got an awesome compilation of videos for you today that I think you’ll really like. I’m running out the door to go train myself, and there’s a bunch of stuff to watch, so I’ll cut the chatter short and get right into it. Enjoy! […]

Barbell Walking Lunges, Front Squat Grip

This will be a quick post. Last week I talked about Goblet Walking Lunges and why I liked them. To recap: - It forces you to stay upright, which puts less stress on the spine and more stress on the quads. Your legs will be on fire! - It’s a heck of a core workout The biggest issue is that you are limited in how much you can load it because it’s rare you’ll find dumbbells over 100-120 lbs. I added some weight vests into the mix, but that makes it a little awkward to hold the bigger dumbbells. For [...]

Good Reads for the Week

I know I normally post Good Reads on Sunday, but I thought I’d throw a little curveball and put it up a day early because I’m crazy like that. I know it’s probably a lot to process, so I’ll give you a moment to collect yourself. [Pause] Ok, as I was saying, I put together another awesome compilation of training articles from the past week. This is actually one of the longer lists I’ve made in awhile, so it’s time to get extra excited. Before I get to the list, I want to let you all know that we’ve been [...]

Back-Friendly Leg Training

I had an article go up on T-Nation yesterday called Back-Friendly Leg Training that’s about, well, back-friendly leg training. Given my history of back problems, this is something I’ve very passionate about, so I was glad to be able to share my thoughts. It has received quite a bit of good feedback so far from other people that have gone through similar deals with bad backs, so I feel good about that. Please check it out and let me know what you think in the comments below. I always really appreciate hearing anything you have to say, positive or negative. [...]

Goblet Walking Lunges

Today will be a very short post because I don’t have a lot of time, but I wanted to share a cool exercise variation that I tried out this week and liked quite a bit. It’s Goblet Walking Lunges, which is a pretty simple idea that I can’t believe I didn’t try sooner. I’ve thought about doing it on occasion but just never got around to it. Walking lunges are definitely on the short list of my favorite lower body exercises, and the goblet hold is also another favorite of mine, so it’s a logical combination. I tried to get [...]

For Your Viewing Pleasure: Take 51

I hope everyone is having a good week. Things on my end are good, and the Patriots are back on the winning track after a slight slip up last week (come on, the Bills?!?!?), so all is well in the world. I’ve put together another awesome compilation of videos from the past week, so get excited. I think you’ll like it. […]

My Favorite Lunch: Heaven in a Bowl

So last week I posted about my favorite breakfast. I was a bit surprised how many people were into it, but I guess I shouldn’t be because food is one of the things that we can all bond over since, after all, we all have to eat. It turned out to be pretty cool though because I opened it up to you all, the readers, and got some pretty good ideas for other breakfast ideas, some of which I’ve actually tried already. I’m a creature of habit and without prompting I’ll pretty much eat the same thing every day, so [...]

Good Reads for the Week

This has been a crazy week for me computer-wise after having my hard drive crash on Wednesday night. I had most of things backed up, but I did lose a bunch of Good Reads that I had been compiling. Fear not, I went back and got most of the links, plus a ton more. I’m hoping to have all the computer jumk figured out by the end of next week, assuming my new one comes in (a big if because they’ve been dropping the ball at Lenovo), so I’m looking forward to that. In any case, here are a few [...]
