Good Reads for the Week

With Blogger having problems this past week, things may have gotten a little confusing with my posts disappearing and reappearing, but hopefully it’s all figured out and we can get back the regularly scheduled programming now. That brings me to this week’s Good Reads. I’ve put together another awesome compilation of fitness articles and podcasts for you to check out (over 100 in all), so let’s get to it. Before I do that though, I want to bring your attention to a new online fitness forum that my friend Elsbeth Vaino has created at Can you guess what it’s [...]

Riddle Me This

So apparently Blogger is having some issues and any posts made after Wednesday afternoon were deleted. That means yesterday's For Your Viewing Pleasure post with 35 cool videos from the past week is gone. Sorry about that. Supposedly they are training to restore the deleted posts, but I guess we'll have to wait and see. If they don't, I'll try to repost those videos later this weekend. If I can't, well, it's not the end of the world. I'll keep you posted. Anywho, I spent some time this morning working on a cool blog post that I think you'll all [...]

Awesome Training Music

I'm going to take a detour from training talk today and talk music. When I am training hard and trying to push myself, I find that music plays a huge role in getting motivated and energized. I honestly believe that I perform better when I am listening to something that really gets me going. We all have different musical tastes, but I thought it would be fun to share what I enjoy listening to when I train. I like a wide variety of music, and different stuff effects me in different ways, but all of the music below gets me [...]

Core Training with a Twist (sort of)

I want to share a cool core exercise with you today that I think you’ll really like. It’s a version of the Palloff to Overhead Press using your own bodyweight instead of cables. Here is what it looks like.I got the idea for this one after playing around with a bunch of different exercises and basically combining them into one. Let me backtrack a little bit: at the start of this training phase, I made a conscious effort to include more anti-rotation work in my program because 1) I have not been doing it as much as I should be [...]

Good Reads for the Week

First things first. To all the mothers out there reading this, Happy Mother's Day! I can't think of a harder or more important job than being a mother, and you all definitely deserve your day in the sun. I feel lucky to have the best mom in the world (that's a fact, btw), and today was a good chance to reflect on that while I spent some time with her. Can't ask for more than that.Ok, Good Reads. After last week's monster list, I was a bit worried that this week would end up being a bit of a disappointment. [...]

Breakfast of Champions

Last week, I shared my “recipe” for healthy chicken nuggets, not really thinking it would garner any attention since it is so brutally simple. Much to my surprise, I have actually received quite a bit of positive feedback from people saying they tried it and liked it. I guess there are a lot of people out there like me that want to eat healthy but hate cooking and want to make things that do not take a lot of time to prep or to cook. My criteria for a good recipe are as follows:- It’s healthy-It tastes (reasonably) good-It takes [...]

For Your Viewing Pleasure: Take 29

I hope everyone's having a good week. It's about to get even better because I've put together a great compilation of videos from the past week from people across the fitness industry. There's over 50 in all, so I'll cut the banter short and just get right to it. Getcha popcorn ready, sit back, and enjoy the show. Anthony Renna visits Results Fitness for Strength Coach TV. Here Alwyn Cosgrove takes Anthony on an awesome tour of Results Fitness, one of the top gyms in the country. Neghar Fonooni does single leg deadlifts with two 28 kg kettlebells. Neghar definitely [...]

Videos from the Week

I was all ready to make my usual For Your Viewing Pleasure post this evening, but this morning I got an influx of people sending me links and I had to run to work, so I am a little behind in getting that up and ready to go. In the end, it’s a good thing because that just means you will get a better compilation, but I won’t be able to get it ready until tomorrow. No biggie. In the meantime, since I am way behind in getting my own videos uploaded, I thought I would use this as a [...]

Interview with Neghar Fonooni

I am very excited today to share an interview I did with Neghar Fonooni. Neghar is an extraordinary individual: smart, strong, sexy. She is a great coach, dedicated mother, and an excellent athlete herself. At 5’2” and just a smidge over 120 pounds, she is not the most physically imposing person in the world, but don’t let her size fool you; she is a straight-up beast (I mean that in the most flattering way possible). I recently referred to her as the female form of Mighty Mouse…only way better looking. Lucky for us, Neghar took a lot of time to [...]
