Reverse Lunges with a Twist

I hope everyone is getting a good start to the week. With being off work yesterday for Memorial Day, I am already thrown off and keep thinking it’s Monday. Oh well, who needs Monday anyway?Ok, moving on. About a month ago, I made a post called My Favorite Leg Exercise with a Twist where I showed “1.5” walking lunges. I guess I’m not the only one that loves them because I have received more good feedback about those from people that tried them than probably any other exercise I have shown in the past six months. There were several people, [...]

Good Reads for the Week

I hope everyone had a good week. I sure did. We are coming up on the last week of our spring session, and all the athletes have made great progress, which in turn makes me happy. Also, the sun has finally decided to come out after two straight weeks of rain, and I can tell that my mood is better when the weather is nice. I am also excited about the upcoming Perform Better Summit this weekend in Providence. This is my first summit, but I’ve heard lots of great things and can’t wait to see what it’s all about.Anyway, [...]

Never Let Go: A Must Read

I hope everyone had a good week. After two weeks of almost constant rain, the sun finally came out here, so things are looking up. We have a long weekend too, so that should be nice.I’m in the process of putting together another list of Good Reads but I just wanted to take a second to bring some attention to an awesome book I just finished reading yesterday by Dan John because it is worthy of special mention. Because he really has two first names, I’ve never known quite how to refer to him. Coach John gives the impression that [...]

For Your Viewing Pleasure: Take 32

Wednesday is already upon us, and you know what that means, right? If you guessed Modern Family, you get a big internet high five. I honestly really don’t watch anything other than sports on tv, but I have seen that show a few times and I think it’s freakin hilarious. Please, Sofia Vergara ain’t too hard on the eyes.Alas, Wednesday also means a new installment of For Your Viewing Pleasure. I’ve got a great list for you this week (45 videos in all), so sit back, relax, and enjoy the show.I know I don’t typically put my own videos into [...]

Killer Core Exercise: 1 Arm 1 Leg Bodysaw

First things first. If you have not checked out Sunday’s Good Reads post, be sure to do that. There’s a lot of great stuff there and it will take some time to make it through all of it.Moving on. Last week (in this post) I showed you a cool bodyweight exercise to train anti-rotation and anti- lateral flexion. For today’s post, I’d like to share a killer core exercise with you that works both anti-extension and anti-rotation (you know how I like to kill multiple birds with one stone). It’s the 1 arm 1 leg bodysaw, and it looks like [...]

Good Reads for the Week

Well, another week is in the books, and thankfully, the world didn’t end. To celebrate, I’ve put together another awesome compilation of great fitness articles and podcasts from the past week for you to enjoy. Let’s get right to it.First, here are some posts you may have missed during the week. Stuffed Burgers

I can’t believe that I am making a third post about cooking, but the first two have gone over much better than I expected they would (here is the first one for healthy chicken nuggets and here is one for a nice breakfast), and I actually received a message yesterday asking if I had any more kitchen tricks up my sleeve. If you knew how little cooking skill I have, then you would find that as funny as I did. In any case, there seem to be a lot of people out there that, like me, hate cooking but still [...]

Inverted Row Overload

First off, if you have not checked out yesterday’s For Your Viewing Pleasure post, be sure to do that. There’s over 40 awesome videos of goodness and you’re bound to get some good motivation and learn a few things.Ok, moving forward. Inverted Rows. Those of you who follow my blog with any regularity know I’m a huge fan. It’s far and away my favorite rowing exercise and it does a great job strengthening the upper back, lats, forearms, and even biceps to some degree. It also helps tremendously to improve posture, to balance out the shoulders, to strengthen the rotator [...]

For Your Viewing Pleasure: Take 31

We're already almost half way through another week (hard to believe how fast time flies sometimes) and that means it's time for more great training videos. I've got a great lineup for you today with 40 total videos so sit back, relax, and enjoy the show.I typically don't include my own videos in these posts, but I thought I would throw one in today. Yesterday morning, I hit a new personal best on 1 leg squats, getting 5 reps with 220 pounds added. My previous best was 3 reps with that weight (it acutally might be 225-230 pounds but I [...]

Random Thoughts: Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in

Ok quick, who said that famous line? If you guessed Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) in The Godfather: Part 3, give yourself a gold star and consider yourself a stud. If you guess Silvio (Steven Van Zandt) from the Sopranos, give yourself a silver star because you are partially right. The Sopranos is sweet, but it can’t compare to The Godfather. If you didn't guess either, well...there's no hope for you, sorry. Anyway, I’ve had that line stuck in my head since the weekend because I saw a re-run of one of the Sopranos episode. It isn’t really related to anything [...]
