For Your Viewing Pleasure: Take 25

Well, the work week is halfway done already. I hope it’s been a good one for you. If not, this should make it a little better. I have compiled over 55 awesome videos from the last week so sit back, relax, and enjoy the show. I first want to bring attention to a You Tube channel that I just came across this week from Molly Galbraith. Molly is a complete babe and fitness competitor that also happens to be brutally strong and actually does some powerlifting. Quite the killer combo. Her videos are really impressive and I suggest you subscribe [...]

Exercise of the Week: Hamstring Hell

I have not done an Exercise of the Week for a few weeks and considered dropping it all together, but this one is so awesome I think it warrants me starting it back up. Last week I talked about the glute-ham raise (GHR) and why I like it so much. I don’t want to bore you by rehashing it all again, but if you want to check it out, you can do so HERE.Today I want to show you an awesome GHR variation that I have been using as of late with good success. I’m not sure what to call [...]

Good Reads for the Week

I hope everyone had a good weekend and is getting geared up for a great week to come. I had a good one myself, starting with coaching yesterday morning followed by a great training session with my friends and fellow coaches at MBSC followed by the NCAA basketball tournament. My bracket is a complete disaster at this point, but I'm comforted by the fact that almost everyone else's is too. If you picked the Final Four this year, I think it's pretty clear you just put on a blindfold and picked names out of a hat. I guess that's why [...]

Training Update

I am now two weeks into my new training phase, and since many of you have expressed interest in how I set up my own lifting, I thought I would give you the template I’m currently following. I say ‘template’ as opposed to ‘program’ because as I have mentioned several times before, I adjust my daily training from time to time based on how I’m feeling or what else is going on at the time. I am in the fortunate position of being in an environment where I am constantly surrounded by extremely knowledgeable coaches. As a new strength coach, [...]

For Your Viewing Pleasure: Take 24

I hope everyone is having a good week thus far. If not, this should make it a little better. I have put together one of my biggest compilations of great videos from the past week. I always worry that each week I will not be able to match the list from the previous week, but somehow it always does, and often times it ends up surpassing it. Before I get into the videos, I want to bring your attention to a new You Tube channel from Rachel Guy. Don’t let the name fool you; Rachel is all lady. She is [...]

We’ve Got a Bleeder!

If you missed the reference to There’s Something About Mary in the title, shame on you. Remember this?If not, stop reading immediately and go rent the movie. Seriously, it’s that good. Have you seen my baseball?Anywho, I’m sure you probably haven’t had a chance to get through all the Good Reads from last week, and that’s ok. You can always go back and finish it up when you have the time. Just click HERE.I do want to move along though, and what better place to start than the hamstrings. Random? Perhaps. But the hamstrings are always a good place to [...]

Good Reads for the Week

I just got back from the Perform Better one day seminar in Boston where I listened to Mike Boyle, Todd Durkin, Brett Jones, and Lee Burton. It was a good time and I learned some cool stuff. To continue on the theme of learning, this has been a fantastic week for articles and podcasts. In fact, this is the longest and best list I have ever compiled. I know I say that quite a bit, but it is always the truth; these lists just keep getting bigger and bigger. I don’t think I’ll be able to keep up this pace [...]

Back to School

This will be a short post, but I just wanted to make a quick announcement that I am really excited about. I’ll let Billy Madison spill the beans for me.This September, I will be going back to school at the University of Rhode Island to get my Masters degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in experimental exercise science, as well as assisting in the weight room with the varsity athletes. I applied and was accepted awhile back, but today I visited campus, met with the faculty, and toured the academic and athletic facilities and confirmed that I would be attending [...]

For Your Viewing Pleasure: Take 23

I hope everyone is having a great week. If not, hopefully this post will make it a little better. I have put together another great list of videos so sit back, relax, and enjoy the show. Anthony Renna tours MBSC (Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning), rated the number 1 gym in the country by Men’s Health magazine. It also happens to be where I work. I like this video because it not only shows the facility, but Coach Boyle also explains how the workouts are set up to flow well with the given space. Jen Comas gets a squat PR. [...]

Sticks and Stones May Break My Bones, But Chains and Rings Excite Me

In case you missed the play on words in the title, it is a reference to Rihanna’s new song titled S&M. I hope knowing the lyrics doesn’t take too many points off my man card (it’s inevitable when you listen to the radio ALL the time), but if it does, I hope the video below makes up for it. Yesterday I reached a goal of mine that I have had for awhile now, which was to do ring pushups (using the blast straps) with double my bodyweight. I know that strength-wise, I could have done them before, but I could [...]
