Good Reads for the Week

This was vacation week for schools in Massachusetts, meaning I had the week off as well. I was supposed to go to California this past Tuesday, but that was put on hold due to a series of car problems that still haven't been resolved. It's been annoying, but what can you do but try to make the best of it? My bad fortune is your good fortune because I had more time to read, meaning my list of Good Reads is even better than normal. In fact, this is the biggest and best compilation yet--over 80 selections in all. The [...]

Announcements and Thank You’s

Hello all, I wanted to take a moment to share a few things going into the weekend.1. This past Wednesday, my blog surpassed 100,000 total viewers since I started it last August, about six months ago. It has received 28,974 views in the past month alone, which comes out to close to 1,000 hits a day. It really boggles my mind that so many people come here daily to read my stuff, and I must say it’s quite humbling and flattering. I had no idea it would grow the way it has, but it’s been great. When I first started [...]

For Your Viewing Pleasure: Take 20

It’s hard to believe that an entire week has gone by since the last installment of For Your Viewing Pleasure, but unless my calendar is lying to me, it has. This week is technically vacation week at MBSC since it is the public school vacation week, but I have actually been even busier than normal, mostly dealing with car bs and other fun stuff like that. Lucky for you though, I have still managed to keep a running of great videos from the past week, so fear not. I think I’m going to make a concerted effort to get this [...]

Random Thoughts and Quick Hits

Things have been crazy the past few days and my mind has been all over the place. Rather than fight, I decided to Just Go With It (see number 6 for the pun) and spill some randomness. 1. Exercise as a Stress Reliever. We hear a lot about exercise being a stressor the body, which it certainly can be. We hear comparatively little, however, about exercise being a stress reliever for the mind. In my mind, when life is throwing you curveballs and nothing seems to be going right, there is nothing better than a good hard workout to clear [...]

Good Reads for the Week

The week's just keep flying by. Another Sunday means yet another installment of Good Reads. I wasn't sure if I was going to have time to put a list together, but it actually turned out to be one of the best lists yet. I had a test I had to take this past Friday so I figured I'd be studying for that all week, but in reality, "studying" turned into reading more articles while I put off really studying. Funny how that works. Lucky for you, my procrastination means a great compilation of articles and podcasts from the past week. [...]

For Your Viewing Pleasure: Take 19

I won’t be around tomorrow so I wanted to get this post up before the end of the week. We have another great batch of videos this week so rather than waste your time I’ll get right to it. Hope you like it. As usual, I did not post any of my own videos, but please be sure to subscribe to my You Tube channel to check out my new videos as they come up. I have posted some cool new ones this week and have several more on the way. The subscriptions have slowed down recently but please keep [...]

The Road to 300

Over this past weekend, I reached one of my long-term gym goals, which was to do rear-foot elevated split squats (aka Bulgarian Split Squats) with over 300 lbs. I thought I would post it up to share it and explain how I reached it. First off, here it is. I used 90 pound dumbells and 3 weighted vests totaling 125 pounds for a total of 305 pounds for 6 reps. Back StoryTwo summers ago (about 20 months ago), I played around with this exercise for about 2 months and actually work up to “240 pounds for 5 reps” using two [...]

Exercise of the Week: Reverse Sled Drags

The Exercise of the Week this time is Reverse Sled Drags. As I have mentioned several times over the last three months, I have started doing A LOT more sled work (as in, almost every single workout) and this is quickly becoming one of my favorite variations. Let me explain why.My first reason for liking them so much is that they are “easy” on the body. I put “easy” in quotations because, as anyone who has ever pushed or pulled a weighted sled knows, they are anything but easy. I might even venture to say that sleds are responsible for [...]

Good Reads for the Week

I can’t believe it’s already Sunday. Where does the time go? Things have been very busy recently, but again, it’s a good busy so I can’t complain (except for the repeated car troubles, but I digress). Another Sunday marks the end of the week and a new installment of Good Reads. I have not had as much time to peruse for articles this week, so everything I read came directly from Facebook and Twitter. If you are not already following me on Twitter, be sure to do so HERE. That being said, the list is another doozy—just a ton of [...]

For Your Viewing Please: Take 18

Well, another week’s gone by since the last installment of For Your Viewing Pleasure. Sometimes I really can’t believe how fast time flies. Each week I post up these video compilations, I always worry how I will match it the following week, but time and time again, you all deliver and put out great stuff, making it easy. In fact, it is to the point now where I actually have to leave some things out because otherwise the list would just be too darn long. On that note, I’ll stop blabbering and get right to it. As usual, I did [...]
