Exercise of the Week

I am going to try out something new here and start posting an Exercise of the Week. The name is pretty self-explanatory. Each week I will highlight a different exercise and provide a video. Some weeks it will be something I have done myself, and other weeks it will be something I have come across from somebody else that I think it particularly useful.I am not really even sure what to call this week's exercise, so I went with Suspended Hamstring Bodycurls. I got the idea for this after watching Dewey Nielsen’s video of TRX Bodycurls and Bret Contreras’ gliding [...]

More Random Thoughts and Quick Hits

As usual, there is no real rhyme or reason to these random thoughts. I suppose that is the true beauty of randomness. Here it goes. 1. New Video: Single Leg Slideboard Leg Curls. This exercise could be used as a good progression from the regular bilateral slideboard leg curl. Like it’s bilateral counterpart, it is an awesome exercise for the posterior chain because it simultaneously works hip extension and knee flexion, giving you more bang for your buck. I think it could be particularly useful for people with lower back issues because it does not put any pressure on the [...]

Interview with Jen Comas: Bikini Competitor, Powerlifter, and Certifiable Badass

I have a special interview today with Jen Comas of the Elitefts Q&A Staff. I have had the pleasure of getting to know Jen because she is engaged to a good friend of mine, Michael Keck (also of the Elitefts Q&A staff). Jen is quite the extraordinary woman: strong, smart, funny, attractive. She's really got it all. Michael is a lucky guy. I wanted to pick Jen's brain to about how she got to where she is today. Check out what she had to say.1. Jen, first off, thanks for talking the time to do this interview. Before we begin, [...]

For Your Viewing Pleasure: Take 5

Another great week of videos this week. Every week just keeps getting better and better. I am glad these posts have gone over well because I really enjoy compiling them. Some of the videos give me ideas for new things to try and some just motivate the heck out of me. Enough rambling… sit back and getcha popcorn ready!Jen Comas goes through a bench workout. I love Jen’s videos. She disregards all the dogma we hear about women lifting heavy weights and just gets after it. Being that she’s not only strong but also a complete babe, hopefully more women [...]

Halloween Workout: Video, Lessons, and Wayne’s World

The way my schedule is right now, I work Monday-Saturday, so Sunday ends up being my “catch-up day.” When I can, I try to make it home for a short visit. This Sunday, I decided to grab a quick workout in my old gym. It is always nice going back there, but it is funny how your perspective can change so much in such a short amount of time. Before I started my internship at MBSC, I used to think my home gym was about as good as it got. Now, after working and training at MBSC (a veritable playground [...]

Monday Motivation

This post is about someone who is very near and dear to my heart. This man was my next door neighbor growing up and is about as close to being my grandfather as you can get without having any blood relation. Beginning with a major stroke eight years ago, this guy has been through the ringer. Previously an avid golfer, his passion was taken away from him in the blink of an eye, and it has been a constant struggle since then. The last three months have been particularly trying, with him being in and out of the nursing home, [...]
